Second phase of CALM’s California Coast Room now open

Coast Room

After a months-long closure to build out its second phase, CALM’s California Coast Room re-opened to the public on Saturday, Sept. 8 featuring two new aquariums. One is home to “Hank” the two-spot octopus, the other to five northern seahorses. The new sea creatures complement an existing 10-foot aquatic touch tank filled with snails, crabs, urchins, sea slugs and sea stars for guests to explore and a giant moon jellies viewing window, which opened in January 2017.

“We are so excited to add to our coast room collection,” said CALM manger Lana Fain. “Guests are in for a real treat!”

The second-phase of the California Coast Room was made possible through funding from the Wheeler Foundation. The coast room will be open daily starting Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while the zoo itself is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CALM is located at 10500 Alfred Harrell Hwy (between Lake Ming and Hart Park). For information, call 661-872-2256 or visit calmzoo.org.
