The dental services are provided by a cadre of KCCDHN staff including:

Dr. Stacy Eastman, DDS

Dr. Eastman’s education began at West Hills and Cabrillo Colleges where she earned her certificate in dental hygiene. . After working as a hygienist and having the vision of becoming a dentist, she returned to college at the University of Southern California where she earned her doctorate in dentistry.

In addition to the directorship of the Taft College Dental Hygiene Program, Dr. Eastman directs the Kern County Children’s Dental Health Network. The program is in partnership with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools and Taft College Dental Hygiene Program whereby dental hygiene services are mobilized to preschool and elementary school sites. Dr. Eastman is a member of the Kern County Dental Society and also has a private dental practice in Coalinga, CA.

Dr. Daniel Launspach, DDS

Dr. Daniel Launspach graduated from the University of Illinois in 1976, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He attended Loyola University College of Dental Medicine to earn his D.D.S. degree in 1980. He then completed a hospital-based general practice residency at Foster McGaw Hospital – Loyola University. In 1981, he moved to Los Angeles to do his postdoctoral residency in pediatric dentistry at the University of Southern California. During his pediatric residency program, he worked at both Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Rancho Los Amigos Hospital. He obtained his certificate in pediatric dentistry in 1983 and has been practicing pediatric dentistry in Bakersfield since completion of his residency program. More…

Dr. Daniel Purdy, DMD

Dr. Daniel Purdy graduated from University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in History. He then continued with his education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and received his D.M.D. In addition Dr. Daniel Purdy completed two years of post-doctorate training at U.C.L.A. where he received his certificate as a Pediatric Dental Specialist.

Prior to joining his father in their Bakersfield dental practice, Dr. Daniel Purdy spent two years as an associate in a large pediatric practice in Redding , California. Along with practicing in Bakersfield he recently has expanded his expertise and opened a new pediatric dental practice in Santa Barbara , California where he resides with his wife Meg Purdy. More…

Dr. Robert Bang, DDS

Harriet Luzinas-Smith, RDHAP

Harriet A. Luzinas-Smith’s interest in a dental career was sparked in 1978 when she began working as a dental assistant. Through those years, she had the privilege of working in a variety of areas within the dental field while traveling with her husband, a career soldier. After a raising her children, Harriet’s profession was ignited again when she worked as an assistant to an endodontist in a US Army dental clinic. This experience motivated her to return to school to earn her certificate as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with an additional certificate in crown and bridge technology.

In May, 2004, Harriet attended West Los Angeles College where she earned a certificate in Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice (RDHAP) along with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2011. With these additional educational achievements, she enjoyed working alongside dentists, educating patients on the importance of oral health, and mentoring others. Currently, she works with The Kern County Children’s Dental Health Network (KCCDHN) where she provides mobile dental services to preschoolers and kindergartners at their school site in eastern Kern County communities.

Robin Shaffer, RDHAP

Robin began her career in the dental field over 40 years ago as a dental assistant. She later attended West Los Angeles College and UCLA where she earned a certificate as a registered dental hygienist. Robin now utilizes her professional skills in private practice with Jerry Gassaway, DDS. She also works with the Kern County Children’s Dental Health Network where she was an early participant in it’s’ development. Robin is an active member of the Kern County Dental Hygienists’ Society and in her spare time, travels and spends time with her family.

Susie Rodriguez, RDHAP

Susie Rodriquez has devoted the last 30 years of her life to the dental health profession. She was introduced to the field of dentistry beginning with a job as a dental assistant. In 1993, she graduated from the University of Southern California Dental Hygiene Program as a registered dental hygienist. She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Later, in 2005, she furthered her education by earning a Registered Dental Hygiene Alternative Practice certificate from West Los Angeles College.

Susie currently works in private practice with Jerry Gassaway, DDS and in the public health care setting with the Kern County Children’s Dental Health Network. As a RDHAP in the public setting, she assesses children at their school site for tooth decay in addition to applying fluoride varnish treatments.

Susie’s passion for dental hygiene and public health is continually motivating and satisfying. She is involved in many professional organizations and attends workshops that enable her to be knowledgeable of the latest trends and best practices in the profession.

Susan Mc Cracken, RDHAP

Susan McCracken , RDHAP , worked as a dental assistant prior to becoming a dental hygienist 18 years ago. She worked in private practice as an registered dental hygienist before she began working for the Kern County Children’s Dental Health Network (KCCDHN) in 2008 . She holds an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in liberal arts from Taft College along with an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Dental Hygiene. She earned her Alternative Practice (AP) license from West LA College in 2004 and her Bachelor of Science (BS) in 2011 from University of Phoenix. In addition to working for KCCDHN, she also a part-time clinical instructor at Taft College Dental Hygiene Program.
