Substitute Teaching Permits/Substitute Pay Rates


KCSOS Credential Services Department helps process applications for substitute teacher permits, authorizing substitute teaching services for K-12 public schools in California. Individuals interested in substitute teaching in Kern County must apply for the appropriate permit directly through KCSOS Credential Services.

NOTE: Holders of a teaching credential do not need to apply for a substitute teaching permit.

Credentialed Substitute Teacher Application Process

Emergency 30 Day Substitute Teacher Permit(Completed Bachelor’s Degree  and Passage of Basic Skills Examination)

Emergency Substitute Teaching Permit for Prospective Teachers (Completion of 90 semester or 135 Quarter Units  along with proof of current enrollment and Passage of Basic Skills Examination)
