Credential Evaluations

KCSOS Credential Services evaluates an applicant’s qualifications as required for a variety of teaching credentials. In most cases, during this process the applicant must provide copies of credentials currently held and all college and university transcripts. KCSOS Credential Services staff assists both current and prospective teachers on a walk-in basis – appointments are not taken.

Out-of-State Credentials

In order to be evaluated for a California teaching credential authorizing service in a K-12 public school system, out-of-state applicants must provide copies of any out-of-state credential(s) held and copies of all college and university transcripts. Evaluation of Foreign Credentials

Applicants educated in a country outside of the United States must undergo the foreign evaluation process. This is conducted by an independent evaluation agency, accredited by the CCTC, to evaluate program coursework for equivalency to U.S. standards. Foreign Evaluation Applications can be obtained from KCSOS Credential Services. Further information regarding the foreign evaluation process can also be obtained online at the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) website click below.

Registration of Current Credentials

A teacher candidate who holds a clear credential and is being hired by a local school district must register his/her credential(s) through the KCSOS Credential Services office.

As of 9/1/08, the CCTC stopped printing and mailing credential and permit documents. The CCTC website is the official record of all credentials, permits, and certificates issued by the state. KCSOS Credential Services will only register documents following a formal look-up on the CCTC web site. Registration may take place in person or by phone. A candidate must provide his/her social security number and date of birth, in order for us to complete this process.
