Kern Youth @ Work’s priority is to ensure at-risk students receive their Standard High School Diploma and are prepared for Kern County’s workforce. We are a collaborative partnership that provides year-round academic & career pathway advisory as well as certificated job skill training opportunities. Both staff and volunteers endeavor to help young adults become self-reliant, productive community members who are effectual forward thinkers.
We represent an organization of private and public partners, the JobsPlus! Program, Kern YouthBuild Program, and Kern County Probation’s Career Development Academy. To find out more about these programs simply click on the corresponding links in the right hand column.
Kern Youth @ Work provides comprehensive resources for education and career development for at-risk youth. We strive to offer a variety of programs that foster leadership, personal growth, and intrinsic abilities. All participants complete a customized job portfolio tailored to their skill sets, ensuring they are ready for their first real world of work experience. The job skills training programs we offer include nationally recognized certifications. This makes students valuable assets to both an employers’ labor and fiscal needs.
Kern Youth @ Work has a Work Permit Program for the student body at large.
Students who obtain their own employment can become permitted for work by completing a series of steps. Students that have applied for a position interviewed and have been offered employment may contact their school site’s front office for a Work Permit Packet.
