C.H.A.M.P (Comprehensive, Humanities, Art, Math, Program)

Integration of interdisciplinary content areas to foster holistic learning experiences. Exploration of connections between humanities, arts, math, and other disciplines to promote critical thinking and creativity. Incorporation of project-based learning and inquiry-based activities to encourage exploration and discovery. Emphasis on developing 21st-century skills such as collaboration, communication, and problem-solving through C.H.A.M.P lessons.

Professional Development

  • Quarterly training to assist Resource Teachers and Support Service Aides (SSA) to better serve migrant students and families and further develop leadership skills. These sessions are commonly referred to as MELA (Migrant Education Leadership Academy) meetings.
  • Training of district staff in the use of database technology to help improve the flow of information about the needs of migrant students and families and the assessment of programs to assist in continuous improvement.
  • As part of the Family Project, the region conducted training to parents to assist other parents in their districts. Parents as First Teachers training assists parents to share information about improving family literacy.
  • A Writing Camp was conducted with children in grades one through five in conjunction with the Family Project and Parents as First Teachers to improve the writing skills of those students in attendance.
  • Math PD: Encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills through a variety of engaging math tasks and challenges. Exploration of real-world applications of mathematical concepts to enhance understanding and relevance.
  • Writing PD: Integration of visual aids, graphic organizers, and collaborative writing exercises to scaffold writing proficiency. Incorporating explicit instruction on writing conventions, sentence structure, and vocabulary development.
  • Integrated English Language Development PD: This workshop will provide instruction in implementation of research-based strategies to support English Language Learners (ELs) in acquiring language proficiency. Incorporating scaffolded instruction, visual aids, and interactive activities to enhance language acquisition and comprehension.
  • Culturally Linguistic Responsive Teaching PD: Integration of multicultural literature, artifacts, and traditions into the curriculum to promote cultural awareness and understanding. Implementation of culturally responsive teaching practices to create an inclusive and respectful classroom environment.
