There are many resources to help students who do not speak, read, write or understand English well for the students themselves and also parents and educators.


California ELD Standards for Grades K – 12
These are the new ELD Standards that were adopted by the State Board of Education on November 7, 2012.

The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English
Student-friendly definitions for more than 200,000 words, idioms, and phrases with pronunciation, examples, etc.

Aiming High
An initiative by the Sonoma County Office of Education designed to close the achievement gap for English learners. Links to articles, training videos, and archived copies of the Aiming High Briefs, newsletters focusing on a variety of topics of interest to teachers of ELs.

Colorín Colorado
Resources for educators and families of English language learners, including information on differentiating instruction, assessment, cognates, etc.

Schools Moving Up
A website with various resources, Schools Moving Up also offers several webinars each month. Each webinar is archived and many topics are available, including issues regarding ELs, RtI, differentiated instruction, and vocabulary.

Using English
A resource for information regarding idioms, phrasal verbs, irregular verbs, etc.

English for All
An interactive website for adults learning English as a second language. Also appropriate for our high school ELs.

Spanish Dict
A Spanish-English/English-Spanish dictionary, and English to Spanish translating.

Doing What Works
