Equity

Equity vs. Equality 

Participants will develop a foundational understanding of equity and its importance in education. They will learn the differences between equality and equity, enabling them to identify inequities within their own systems.

Implicit Bias 

Participants will increase their understanding of implicit bias and how it impacts our decision-making. They will learn about the different types of bias and gain tools to help them recognize and interrupt biases within our own systems.

Culturally Responsive Practices 

Participants will delve into the research on culturally responsive pedagogy and assess their own settings to identify examples of culturally responsive teaching practices. They will explore the three components of culturally relevant pedagogy, which include student learning, cultural competence, and critical consciousness.

Recognize, Interrupt, and Repair (RIR) 

Participants will learn to respond to bias using the RIR protocol, which aims to disrupt bias compassionately. They will practice this protocol with hands-on activities through sample scenarios to build their capacity to use this model.

Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) 

This training helps to build empathy towards families living in poverty by engaging participants in a simulation that illustrates the harsh reality facing many of our families. The simulation takes participants through a month in the life of a family in poverty, dispelling misconceptions and raising awareness about the impact of poverty on the families we serve.

Behavior Management Support 

This is an eight-half-day series designed to teach behavioral strategies using evidence-based practices. Participants will increase their understanding of behaviors’ functions and gain new strategies to reinforce positive behaviors while also gaining new tools to reduce challenging behaviors.

Trauma-Informed Practices  

Learn about how trauma affects the brain and behavior and what we can do to better support students and their mental health. In this session, participants will Increase awareness of trauma and its impact and learn new tools to develop trauma-informed principles in the classroom and beyond.

SEL Alignment & Integration 

Integrate SEL practices by leveraging your existing support system to build a more robust model for teaching social-emotional behavior skills. Participants will learn more about the five SEL competencies and how they can be integrated into current instructional practices.
