KCSOS’s Adolescents Sexual Health Education program offers comprehensive sexual health education that includes topics that help build self-efficacy among youth to improve partner communication, negotiation, understand consent and refusal skills, and communication with trusted adults. Additionally, the program also informs youth people about eligibility and access to federal, state, and local clinical resources.
Nutrition Education
CalFresh Healthy Living, federally known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed), is the largest nutrition education program in the United States. KCSOS’ CalFresh Healthy Living (SNAP-Ed) Program supports healthy, active and nourished lifestyles by teaching Californians about good nutrition and how to stretch their food dollars, while also building partnerships with communities to make the health choice, the easy choice.
Under supervision of CapK, KCSOS’ CalFresh Healthy Living (SNAP-Ed) Program provides Direct Education, Evidence-Based Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) Changes, and Indirect Education. Direct education includes interactive classes that engage participants in learning about budget-conscious strategies for healthy eating and staying physically active. KCSOS’ CalFresh Healthy Living (SNAP-Ed) Program is currently providing Direct Education to 4th and 5th grade students in a variety of different Kern County Elementary schools. Indirect Education aims to promote, support, and reinforce CalFresh Health Living (SNAP-Ed) messages. KCSOS’ CalFresh Healthy Living (SNAP-Ed) team hosts annual Rethink Your Drink events and monthly recipe tastings all over Kern County.
