Local Initiatives & Innovation

The Division of Local Initiatives & Innovation includes several impactful departments: Child & Family Services, offering family resources; Kern Environmental Education Program (Camp KEEP), for hands-on environmental education; SELPA, supporting special education; and School Community Partnerships, focused on Community Schools and aiding homeless/foster youth. They promote educational excellence and community support through innovative and collaborative programs.

Child & Family Services

The Child & Family Services Department is dedicated to supporting the well-being and development of children and families through a range of services designed to foster safety, health, and resilience.

Kern County Consortium SELPA

The Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is a collaborative framework designed to provide comprehensive special education services to students with disabilities within a designated geographic region.

Camp KEEP

Camp KEEP is a residential outdoor science program located where students are guided by the Next Generation Science Standards and naturalists bring science to life using hands-on, experiential activities.

School-Community Partnerships

The School-Community Partnership Department is designed to strengthen the relationship between schools, families, and the broader community.
