English Language Arts
KCSOS is instrumental in providing ELA support to Kern County Districts and their students through a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators. Our ELA team also organizes a number of student events that promote literacy, writing and public speaking in our community. Since 20xx, the team has facilitated the Kern County Reading Project, which recruits and trains community members to become reading coaches for local second grade students.
Electronic versions of the CA Common Core English-Language Arts Content Standards and the CA English Language Development Standards adopted by the California State Board of Education are available at the link below. The standards represent a strong consensus on the skills, knowledge, and abilities that all students should be able to master in language arts at each grade level in the California public school system in order to be college and/or career ready upon graduation from Grade 12.
CA Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts
A blueprint for implementing California’s English-Language Arts and English Language Development Standards, this framework describes the curriculum and instruction necessary to help students achieve progressive levels of mastery so that they may communicate effectively in English and, ultimately, participate fully in society and the world of work. A glossary of selected terms and list of references are included.
