Mechanic II

Under direction, the Mechanic II will perform a variety of skilled level repair, overhaul and maintenance of buses, passenger vehicles, trucks and a variety of other gasoline and diesel powered motorized equipment.

Salary

$24.54 per hour

Minimum Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience as a journeyman level gasoline and diesel powered automotive mechanic.
    AND
  • Must possess a valid Class A or B with “P” endorsement, California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

Minimum Education Requirement

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.

Examples of Duties

Inspect and diagnose mechanical defects and malfunctions on a variety of gasoline and diesel powered
buses, trucks, automobiles, tractors and other motorized equipment; review mechanical repair orders;
observe, listen and diagnose mechanical defects and malfunctions; rebuild, replace or overhaul engines, transmissions, differentials, starters, generators, braking systems, clutches, fuel systems, electrical systems and other mechanical assemblies; perform engine tune-ups and system adjustments; inspect, adjust and reline brakes. Use a variety of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, welding equipment and a variety of mechanical aids in the repair, adjustment and maintenance of motorized equipment; perform road tests and inspect buses and other automotive equipment to ensure that malfunctions have been corrected and that the equipment is functioning properly; estimate time and material costs concerning repair and maintenance functions; may utilize electric and gas welding equipment, lathes and drill presses in repairing and fabricating parts; respond to emergency roadside service needs; may coordinate and direct the work of helpers; maintain a variety of files and records pertaining to motorized equipment repair, overhaul and maintenance.
