Write to Learn

Write to Learn uses the explicit vocabulary instruction steps from Fab Vocab! to focus the Alternative Education Program on academic vocabulary. All students receive instruction on the same word for one week at a time, with emphasis on how the word is used in the context of the subject being taught. The vocabulary instruction is linked to a writing activity, giving students the opportunity to experience the word through multiple exposures. The Write to Learn words were chosen from those used on the CAHSEE and the Common Core State Standards and are on a two-year cycle.
