Mock Trial Results
Centennial High School named Mock Trial champs for second straight year, moves on to state competition in March
Centennial High School claimed victory in a very close showdown round to win the 2017 Kern County Mock Trial Super Saturday held today in Bakersfield’s Kern County Superior Courts of California.
15 high school teams argued the fictitious human trafficking and false imprisonment case of People v. Awbrey. Centennial will represent Kern County at the California Mock Trial in March.
Rounding out the top 5 teams were:
Second — Stockdale High School
Third — West High School
Fourth — Ridgeview High School
Fifth — Robert F. Kennedy High School
The top two students from each team who consistently performed the best throughout the course of the two-month competition were named to the Honor Court. They were:
BHS: Sophia Caputo and Mario DeLa Pena

Delano: Aizelle Gulapa and Sydney Baraceros
East: Andrea Guevara and Karen Quezada
Foothill: Ruthie Zarate and Emely Carcamo
Frontier: Ashley Buford and Jennifer Fernandez
Golden Valley: Madeline Renteria and Thomas Keen
Highland: Jeanine Procell and Ivan Marinez
Liberty: Mikaela Becina and Dylan Medveal
Ridgeview: Kaitlyn Kovac and Virpal Gill
Robert F. Kennedy: Araceli Meza and Lissete Valdez
Shafter: Lilyana Villa and Marley Wobbe
South: Ariel Lopez and Sherrie Duran
Stockdale: Sierra Nagle and Abhishek Srinivas
West: Mary Swanlund and Patricia Benisano
Competing high schools reversed defense and prosecution roles each round and provided witnesses and courtroom officials in the fictitious case of People v. Awbrey. People v. Awbrey is the trial of Cameron Awbrey, a restaurant owner, who is being charged with human trafficking and false imprisonment of Lin Stark, an immigrant from the country of Tanterra.
Kern County Mock Trial is funded with a grant from the Harry and Ethel West Foundation and is sponsored by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Kern County Bar Association, Kern County Superior Courts of California, Kern County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff’s Reserves.
