Mock Trial Results
Stockdale High School named mock trial champs; goes on to the state competition in March in Riverside, California
Stockdale High School claimed victory in a very close showdown round to win the 2015 Kern County Mock Trial Super Saturday held on January 24 in Bakersfield’s Kern County Superior Courts of California.
Seventeen high school teams argued the fictitious felony theft by larceny case of People v. Shem. Stockdale will represent Kern County at the California Mock Trial, March 20-22 in Riverside, Calif.
Rounding out the top 5 teams were:
Second —Centennial High School
Third — West High School
Fourth — Garces High School
Fifth — South High School
The top two students from each team who consistently performed the best throughout the course of the two-month competition were named to the Honor Court. They were:

Garces — Lilyana Espinoza and John Soper
Golden Valley — Jelena Herrera and Jaeson Gonzalez
Highland — Annie Murrell and Mica Hasta
Liberty — Andie Grimm and Wesley Stewart
Mira Monte — Laura Chavez and Raven Simon
Ridgeview — Simaran Grewal and Alejandro Saucedo
Robert F. Kennedy — Melissa Sanchez and Destinee Sanchez
South — Chris Flores and Ryann Stevens
Stockdale — Dev Madeka and Josh Dhaliwal

Competing high schools reversed defense and prosecution roles each round and provided witnesses and courtroom officials in the fictitious case of People v. Shem. People v. Shem is the trial of Evan Shem, who is studying for a masters of fine arts degree at Hamiltonia University. Shem faces one felony count, theft by larceny, for the theft of Treason, a painting by Fletcher Yazoo. Treason is owned by wealthy art collector Marty McCulloch.
