CalSTRS: The Interview Process


Getting Started:

  • Contact Sandy Boston,
    CalSTRS secretary, at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office
    (661) 636-4880, Monday-Friday, 8:00 – 5:00.
  • Be prepared to provide your name, address, home telephone number, work telephone number and Social Security number.
  • Confidential interviews are scheduled at least two weeks in advance, unless special circumstances occur.
  • Confidential
    interviews are held at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools
    Office, 1300 17th Street-CITY CENTRE, in the CalSTRS office or by
    special arrangement for school-site counseling.

Information the member may provide to assist the counselor:

  • The expected number of unused sick leave days at the retirement date.
  • The number of contract days for your position.
  • If
    member has less than 25 years of service credit: Salaries for your last
    three years of employment, or salaries for the last 36 consecutive
    months of employment, or for the highest 36 consecutive months of your
    career, or projections for the final 36 months of employment if you are
    retiring more than two years from the interview date.
  • If member has at least 25 years of service credit:
    Salaries for your last year of employment, or salaries for the last 12
    consecuitve months of employment, or for the highest 12 consecutive
    months of your career, or projections for the final 12 months of
    employment if you are retiring more than two years from the interview
    date.
  • The beneficiary’s date of birth if you are selecting an option.
