Demonstrating Support and In-Kind Commitment
Funding agencies may want to know how others i.e. community partners will support the program or project through in-kind and/or cash contributions. Some may even require a MATCH of in-kind and/or cash contributions. Some funders may require letters of support, letters of agreement, etc. where these community partners identify specifically their role in supporting the proposed project and/or program.
Letter of Support – broad letter that shows support for project usually from a political representative, community partner etc. This letter does not have details in it but has broad language stating support for the program and/or project.
Letter of Commitment- a detail letter which outlines commitment either through in-kind services or cash contribution. Values is provided for the services to help quantify in-kind or matching amount.
Letter of Memorandum – more formal agreement that sometimes needs Board approval.
Letters of Memorandum and Letters of Commitment are often used to establish formal legal agreements after the grant funding has been awarded.
