Grant writing, what is the best way to learn? #4 Blog
Often people ask me, how do I learn more about grant writing and/or how do I stay current with grant writing? Classes are a great start but ultimately learning from others in the field is the best way to acquire knowledge. Grant writing doesn’t need to be a solo endeavor. If you are interested in learning about grant writing, I highly recommend joining one of these networks to learn more through a Community of Practice approach.
Community of practice is not a new concept but is a time old strategy of learning. Wenger-Trayner provides the following definition: “Communities of practice (CoP) are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly”.
Over the past two years, Kern Grant Network has been a local venue for sharing ideas and practices together. Another great CoP to look into is the Grant Professional Association (GPA). This organization is more than association but also represents smaller groups who meet regularly to share ideas and resources around grant writing. GPA provides regular webnairs and online resources too.
