Mock Trial Results
Stockdale High School named 2018 Mock Trial champions, team now moves on to state competition in March
Stockdale High School claimed victory in a close showdown round to win the 2018 Kern County Mock Trial Super Saturday held today in Bakersfield’s Kern County Superior Courts of California.
15 high school teams, and one junior high team, argued the fictitious first-degree murder case of People v. Davidson. Stockdale High will represent Kern County at the California Mock Trial in March.
Rounding out the top 5 teams were:
Second — Garces Memorial High
Third — Centennial High
Fourth — Liberty High
Fifth — West High
The top two students from each team who consistently performed the best throughout the course of the two-month competition were named to the Honor Court. They were:
BHS: Jacquelyn Jacobs and Ja’laysha Brown
Centennial: Anna slater and Stevie McNabb
Delano: Charlin Pabalate and Pedro Rodriguez
East: Carina Lauricio and Guadalupe Avalos
Foothill: Kaelani Burja and Alondra Orozco Romero
Fruitvale Jr. High: Liberty Gonzalez and Eoghan (Owen) Kerry
Garces Memorial: Alfred Agbayani and Nick Oh
Golden Valley: Mely Morales and Thomas Keene
Highland: Vera Arenas and Alexa Coburn
Liberty: Annaliese Spielman and Seth Hewett
Ridgeview: Leslie Martinez and Gerson Cruz
Robert F. Kennedy: Araceli Meza and Lissete Valdez
Shafter: Marley Wobbe and Noah Camacho
South: Vonnesha Harris and Sandra Ruvalcaba
Stockdale: Arsh Mehta and Amal Shurbaji
West: Alyssa Macias and Zeriyn Araneta
Competing high schools reversed defense and prosecution roles each round and provided witnesses and courtroom officials in the fictitious case of People v. Davidson. People v. Davidson is the trial of Casey Davidson, a resident of the town of Acorn, California. Davidson faces a felony count of first-degree murder for the death of Alex Thompson, another young resident of Acorn and member of Ultra Nats, an extremist nationalist group.
