KCSOS embarks on strategic planning initiative, awareness campaign to highlight each divisions top priorities
Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.”
This is the very basis of an important exercise that directors and administrators of each of KCSOS’s many divisions embark on with their staff members every three years. The process requires each division to assess current and future needs and plan for adapting to those needs given the ever-changing external landscape.
The 2015-18 planning process began last summer when divisional employees convened to lay out a roadmap of their top priorities and draft plans that outlined how they would achieve their goals. After these plans were vetted and fine tuned with ways to measure progress, each director or division administrator met with senior cabinet to get their buy-in.
Divisions are now hard at work implementing their plans.
“The process ensures there is accountability and clarity of each division’s organizational purpose and defines how their current and upcoming work fits into KCSOS’s overarching priorities,” said KCSOS Associate Superintendent Mary Barlow, who spearheaded the strategic planning initiative.
Barlow added that public transparency is another important aspect of the project.
“As a public entity that is funded primarily through taxpayer dollars, it is important to share with our stakeholders how those dollars are benefiting the greater good of our community.”
For this reason, the office is embarking on an outreach campaign that is intended to highlight each division’s top priorities through promotion on kern.org, KCSOS’s Facebook page, posters that will be placed around KCSOS buildings, and a Strategic Plan Overview publication that will be available to community stakeholders.
