Parents and caregivers interested in discovering ways to help their young children develop into strong readers are invited to attend the “Home Grown Readers” workshop on March 8 from 5-7:30 p.m., in room 1B, Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) Office, 1300 17 th Street in Bakersfield. Although the workshop is free, registration is required and can be made by contacting Maria Madrigal at (661) 636-4886. You can also register online at, http://kcsos.kern.org/SpecialEd/stories/storyReader$494.

Presented by KCSOS Special Education Programs Specialist Barbara Williams, the workshop will show parents and caregivers how reading to preschoolers and becoming good listeners for older children when they read aloud makes students better readers. Research will show that parents and caregivers who value reading are more likely to read to their children. The focus, therefore, will be on simple ways to lay the foundation at home to enhance the development of children as strong readers.

For more information contact Madrigal.
