Chevron's Adam Alvidrez on behalf of the company presented Kern County Network for Children's Michelle Humecky with a $7,500 donation to promote child abuse prevention.

Much clapping and cheering took place during the opening minutes of the monthly Kern County Network for Children (KCNC) General Collaborative Meeting held on August 26 at University Square in Bakersfield. That is when Prevention Services Facilitator Michelle Humecky announced Chevron’s Adam Alvidrez was in the audience and had something special to present. What Alvidrez, who is a public affairs representative for Chevron, did was present KCNC with a $7,500 check from the oil company to aid in efforts to educate the public about child abuse prevention.

“We’ve established a good working relationship with the Kern County Network for Children,” Alvidrez said. “They do awesome work with families and children, and we are pleased to present $7,500 to the network to support child abuse prevention education.”

KCNC in their grant application to Chevron said the money will be used to help produce its annual “Conditions of Children Report Card,” that statistically details the needs of the county’s children, identifies where changes need to be made and highlights successful trends. It serves as an important planning resource for many school districts, county departments and non-profit agencies working with families. Another part of Chevron’s donation will go towards producing public service announcements to promote Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

“Chevron also plays a big role by being a part of our Community Advocacy Committee consisting of local business, school and agency leaders, who develop monthly topics for public education and training to promote child well being,” Humecky said. “Every April the committee launches Child Abuse Prevention Month with a calendar of events to promote education and awareness. Our open to the public trainings can be found on the Kern Cares Web site, http://kerncares.org.  By serving on the committee and helping with their generous donations, Chevron proves they care about our community and the children in our community.”
