Kern County Museum summer camps

Starting June 7, the Kern County Museum, located at 3801 Chester Ave. in Bakersfield, is offering the first of 10 week long summer camps to fit your family’s summer schedule. The museum is taking registrations right now for children ages 5-11 for half and full day sessions. Half day sessions — 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday-Friday — are $90 a session for museum members and $115 for non-members. Full day sessions — Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. — are $160 a session for museum members and $200 for non-members. Cost includes materials, camp T-shirt, water, one daily snack for half-day campers and two daily snacks for full-day campers. Each session will be filled with fun and exciting science demonstrations, experiments, cooking, arts and crafts, visits to museum exhibits, snack and nutrition lessons, and pictorial camp journaling. Here are the offerings:

June 21-25 — You Can Build It!

June 28-July 2 — Chemistry is Cool!

July 12-16 — Geology Rocks (ages 5-7)/Kitchen Science (ages 8-11)

July 19-23 — Kitchen Science (ages 5-7)/Geology Rocks (ages 8-11)

July 26-30 — Physics is Phun!

August 2-6 — Superhero Science — Kapow!

August 9-13 — Hmmm…That’s Weird!!

August 16-20 — 2010: A Space Odyssey
